My goals for the Madison County Sheriff’s Office include
presenting a more concentrated effort on the war on drugs,
increasing the accessibility of
the Sheriff’s Office to the public,
promoting community
awareness and involvement with the operation of the Sheriff’s
Office, and investing in
training for officers to achieve the most efficient force possible. |
I am confident that these goals can be accomplished
with innovative thinking tempered by experience.
I am convinced that law enforcement has to be proactive instead
of reactive only. I also
know from experience that this attitude must come from team work.
This team work also includes getting the community involved with
the law enforcement function.
I have seen great results from this in the past and have some
good ideas to establish this again.
One of the biggest obstacles to obtaining
these goals will be budget constraints.
However I feel that this can be overcome by examining every area
of funding possible as well as being creative with work assignments and
job descriptions.
Finally, I know that training is what made
my career successful. Training will have to be a priority for all
employees if I expect to accomplish these goals.
Work History:
I have been afforded the opportunity to serve this community for
over 26 years in Law Enforcement, most of which has been spent with the
Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
My experience includes serving as a Corrections Officer,
Communications Officer, Patrol Deputy, Traffic Deputy, Felony
Investigator, State Attorney Investigator, and finally as a Supervisor,
retiring from the Sheriff’s Office as Captain in December of 2005.
While working in these positions I experienced all facets of the
criminal justice system and investigated all types of crime from petit
theft to homicides. I am confident that this working knowledge of the
Sheriff’s Office has given me the ability to carry out the duties of the
Sheriff effectively, while being firm, fair and impartial.
Education:
Graduated from Madison High School in 1977.
Graduation from Marine Corps Boot camp at Parris Island South Carolina
in 1977.

1980.

Graduated Polygraph School in 1991.
Firearms instructor and various other Law Enforcement certifications.
Family:
My wife of 18 years, Kim, is a Dental Hygienist with
Doctor Shaw’s Office in Madison.
My daughter, Brooke, is 15 and is a Sophomore in high school.
I am the son of the late Bill Stewart Jr. and Patsy Stewart of
Madison. I have one brother, Bill
Stewart, who owns and operates Stewart’s Automotive in Madison.
I am the fourth generation of my family that has
lived in Madison County and now have a 15 year old daughter growing up
here. This a been one of
the main motivations for me to want to make Madison County as safe as
possible for the future. I
have seen the same concern in other families in this county as well and
will strive to make Madison County a safe place to raise a family.
Church Affiliation:
I am a member of the Madison Fellowship Baptist Church and a member of the Gideon's International.
My Christian background and beliefs are the most important asset that I can offer as Sheriff. I feel that if you follow biblical principles in all areas of leadership then every other matter will fall into correct position. One of my driving forces is Proverbs 8:13 which says that the fear of the Lord is to hate evil.
Military Service:
I served 6 years with the United States Marine Corps Reserve receiving an honorable discharge as a Sergeant
During my Marine Corps enlistment I was part of
Charlie Company, Eight Tank Battalion, Fourth Marine Division
based out of Tallahassee.
After boot camp I received tracked vehicle training in Aberdeen
Maryland at Aberdeen Proving Grounds.
My position was a tank retriever commander during my enlistment.
